This summer, turn your home into a relaxation oasis.

A few summers ago, I took a week off work, but instead of traveling, I stayed at home. It ended up being one of the most relaxing vacations I’ve ever had. I set up a soothing at-home spa, hosted my own cooking class for friends, and pretended to be a tourist in my town.

There is much to be said for a staycation. It’s cheaper than a traditional vacation, involves less planning, and doesn’t require hopping on a plane or braving airport security.

Set up your own staycation this summer. Below are tips and ideas for making sure your summer staycation is memorable and relaxing.

Preparing Your Staycation Space

The first step in creating the perfect staycation sanctuary is decluttering and organizing. I know, sounds like work! While it may seem tedious to start your staycation with cleaning, it will be worth it if you can spare an hour or two to tidy up before you begin in earnest. A tidy environment clears physical space and promotes a relaxed mind, making it easier to unwind.

After you’ve tidied up, add comfortable elements that will infuse luxury into your everyday surroundings. Soft throw pillows, plush blankets, and comfortable seating can transform an ordinary room into a cozy haven that invites relaxation.

Now focus on the ambiance. Subtle adjustments like dimming the lights, playing soft background music, and lighting a scented candle can radically alter the mood of your space and help create a calming environment. Using candles or essential oils to add soothing scents like lavender or chamomile can make the relaxing effect even deeper. These natural aromas are known for their ability to soothe and calm.

Plan Your Activities

There are endless activities you can try during your staycation. It’s a good idea to put together a list of experiences in advance. After all, half the fun of vacation activities is anticipating them.

Hobbies

A staycation is the perfect time to catch up on activities like reading a book, writing a blog, or painting. Life can get so crammed with things like work, appointments, errands, and family commitments. Often, hobbies end up on the back burner. Take the time to tend to a hobby or two. Maybe even try a new one.

Local Attractions

Act like a tourist. Visit local museums, parks, or new restaurants that you’ve been meaning to try. Exploring your own town can be surprisingly refreshing and fulfilling. It may have more to offer than you ever knew; you just needed the time to discover it.

Outdoor Excursions

Go on a day trip to a nearby nature reserve or beach. The change of scenery can be a wonderful break from your routine and make your staycation feel more like a traditional vacation. Take a hike, go for a swim, or picnic at a local park and enjoy the beauty of nature in your own backyard.

Try a DIY Project

A staycation is also a good chance to try DIY projects like revamping old furniture or starting a garden, which can be both therapeutic and rewarding. Just don’t bite off more than you can chew, or your relaxing staycation may get overwhelming fast.

Try New Culinary Experiences

Experiment with new recipes or create a themed dining experience. Embarking on an at-home culinary adventure is a great way to spice up your meals. When I hosted a cooking class for a few of my friends during my own staycation, we all pitched in to provide ingredients for appetizers, entrées, and desserts, and we took turns teaching each other how to create each dish. It was an absolute blast!

Relax and Unwind

The best part of a staycation is that you can fully relax and unwind – focusing and yourself and getting much-needed rest.

Bring the Spa Home

Transform your home into a sanctuary of relaxation with DIY spa treatments. Set the scene with soothing music, dim lighting, and a few candles. Treat yourself to luxurious DIY facials, therapeutic baths, and other relaxation techniques. Elevate your relaxation with THC drinks to make your spa experience even more indulgent.

Put Your Phone on Do Not Disturb

Take a well-deserved break from all screens and digital devices. Limiting your screen time isn’t just about reducing distractions. It’s about reconnecting with your surroundings and the people around you. By reducing your stress, improving your mood, and enhancing your well-being, a digital detox allows you to fully immerse yourself in the tranquility of your staycation.

Try Mindfulness Exercises

Integrate mindfulness into your daily routine by practicing exercises for your mind and body that help you to relax deeply and experience inner peace. Activities like guided meditation, breathing exercises, or yoga classes can transform your staycation into a rejuvenating retreat.

Unwind with Cannabis

The soothing benefits of cannabis products like THC gummies are ideal for unwinding. The dose is easy to adjust to ensure sustained feelings of relaxation that enhance activities like reading or lounging in the sun.

Invite Family

You can make your staycation even more special by inviting loved ones. Involve family or friends in the planning and activities of your staycation. Sharing this rejuvenating experience will create fun and memorable moments and bring everyone closer together.

Record the Memories

Don’t forget to take lots of photos and videos! Capturing these moments gives you a treasure trove of memories to look back on. Not to mention, you can remember what worked and what didn’t for your next staycation experience.

Have a Great Staycation

The key to a successful summer staycation is giving yourself permission to slow down and enjoy every moment to its fullest. Think of your home as your personal paradise, choosing activities and following the schedule that’s best for you.

With some thoughtful preparation, you can transform your home into the ultimate summer sanctuary, a place where the only things on your to-do list are fun and relaxation.
